An inspiring computer whizz from Pool Academy was given an extra Christmas present to help boost his future career in technology.
They visited the school on the last day before the Christmas holidays to hand over the gift.
Nathan Jeffery, Head of Digital Academy, said: “Riley came to an experience day with us at Cornwall College and told us he didn’t have access to a computer so we gave him a Raspberry Pi. We took him to see HeadForwards Director Toby Parkins who said he had some computers.”
Robert Wiltshire, from Software Cornwall, said the whole point of Software Cornwall was to help the future of software development by helping those interested in working in that field.
Riley, who is in Year 11, said he would love to work in either Software Security or Software Development. He is currently working on a project involving a robot car called a rover and developing an app for it.
He was happy to receive the gift.
He said: “I got into computers when I came to Pool Academy. I am excited to start using this computer. I will use the computer to do some homework, Java and C#.
“Thank you.”
Tim Bareham, Head of Faculty for IT and DT, said: “It is great to see Pool Academy and Cornwall College working closely with important local employers to improve the lives of our students. This computer will enable Riley to follow his dream of a career in the Tech industry.”
