Software Cornwall has teamed up with the STEM Ambassador network to offer some informal training to complement becoming an Ambassador.
This event is perfect for anyone who is looking to volunteer for Software Cornwall’s education outreach activities, help your local code club or visit schools to give career talks. Not only will it help develop your skills in assisting others, it also looks great on CV’s and university applications.
The day is split into two parts. Before lunch, Toni Oatway will deliver the training enabling you to become a STEM Ambassador, which includes the processing of an enhanced DBS check. The session will look to uncover suitable activities for schools, how to comply with common safeguarding procedures as well as providing advice on inspiring the next generation.
The afternoon will see Robert Wiltshire guide participants through two common Software Cornwall outreach activities. The first is our Internet of Things water temperature checker, which will post to social media when your beverage is at optimal drinking temperature. We’ll then break into small groups to work with Ada & Alan, our Mars rover robots in an attempt to navigate them around the Headforwards offices.

About STEM Ambassadors
Together, STEM Ambassadors help to tackle the STEM skills shortage and empower the next generation by opening the doors to the opportunities which come from pursuing science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) subjects.
