SUMMARY:July Cornwall Tech Jam
DESCRIPTION:The last Cornwall Tech Jam of the academic year\, before the summer holiday\, will be at the Fibrehub in Pool. Just off the A30 at the entrance to Cornwall College campus.\nThe Cornwall Tech Jams are an ideal place for children to learn to code\, develop important problem solving skills\, meet like minded friends and generally have a great time.\nThey are run by volunteers from the local technology industry to provide access to equipment and products that children may nor ordinarily have access too. We can also offer advice on projects being built\, direct parents to resources to use at home and provide support in learning how to make a start in this interesting field.\nThere is no charge to join the Cornwall Tech Jam. Our venues have free parking available too. We do insist that parents stay with their children if under the age of 16.

SUMMARY:Dealing with Legacy Code Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Are you scared of working with a Legacy Codebase? You know… the kind of application written years ago and only been touched as a last resort. \nWouldn’t it be great to open up the IDE knowing that\, no matter what you find after cloning the repository\, you’ll get out on top? \nJoin us in this workshop where we’ll take a dive into the most common challenges found in ancient codebases\, how to prepare yourself for success and how to turn an unmanageable beast into a project anyone would be proud to contribute to. \nThe session will feature not only theoretical explanations but also practical exercises and a live demonstration. \nMauro Chojrin is a seasoned Software Engineer\, with more than 20 years in the industry. Currently he works as a Technical Coach\, helping development teams deliver high quality software by embracing eXtreme Programming practices. \nAs this training is Part-Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund there will be some paperwork for attendees to complete (this only needs completing once and not required for every masterclass). \nThis project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

SUMMARY:Test-Driven Development Guided by ZOMBIES Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Have you had a hard time figuring out where to start with Test-Driven Development? What if ZOMBIES could help you build code that does exactly what you think it is supposed to do? What if ZOMBIES helped you build a test harness that can help you keep your code clean and behaving as expected for a long and useful life? ZOMBIES can help! \nI’m not talking about a legion of the undead or virus stricken. ZOMBIES is an acronym that guides you\, the engineer\, to the next test. ZOMBIES can help you avoid forgetting critical tests and production code behaviors. We’ll go through the thought process and steps with a detailed code example. \nThe ZOMBIES stands for: \nZ – Zero\nO – One\nM – Many\nB – Boundary Behaviors\nI – Interface definition\nE – Exercise Exceptional behavior\nS – Simple Scenarios\, Simple Solutions \nAbout James Grenning\nI train and coach engineers and managers doing software development. My broad and deep background makes this line of work a good fit for me. One of my goals is to bring the Agile Development and Object Oriented Design techniques to embedded developers. To support that goal\, I’ve written a book\, Test-Driven Development for Embedded C\, available at www.pragprog.com/titles/JGADE. I was fortunate enough to participate in the creation of the Agile Manifesto in 2001. \nI am a regular speaker at the embedded systems conference and have written articles for IEEE. I am currently working on a book to bring this important topic to embedded development teams. \nI have spent time in development\, systems engineering\, marketing and management. With Object Mentor I have been on teams from many industry areas and technologies\, from real time embedded to desktop software\, to large enterprise information systems. So\, my experience is not limited to one industry area or technology. I have a realistic view of what it takes to make software development projects successful and know good software design\, code\, test\, and management practices. My broad experience pays off when guiding clients through tough development situations. \nSpecialties: Embedded software\, Test Driven Development\, Extreme Programming\, Agile Development\, Requirements analysis\, Use cases\, Automated test\, FitNesse\, C\, C++\, Java\, Object Oriented Design\, Software Architecture\, Project Management\, UML\, Agile Planning. I invented Planning Poker\, here’s the original paper (https://wingman-sw.com/articles/planning-poker).
