Truro & Penwith College wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to you as a respective Cornish employer during these uncertain and challenging times. They understand how hard your industry has been affected and can now start to rebuild and look to move forward.
They entirely respect and appreciate that at this moment, 2019/20 will always be remembered for the impact of COVID-19 and they know the effects this has had on many businesses. In their own organisation the efforts and dedication of their staff across the College has been, and continues to be, remarkable in delivering online learning and support to help employers through this very challenging time.
They have already seen some positive outcomes; launching their online learning has provided employers with a level of flexibility that will see benefits throughout the recovery and beyond.
Truro & Penwith are grateful to all their employer partners across Cornwall’s business community, who are pivotal in shaping their programmes for local industry and they look forward to supporting you to navigate the challenges that lie ahead in the coming year.
Truro & Penwith College are preparing and planning to welcome back current and new Apprentices from September 2020. COVID-19 and social distancing have required the business community and College to be agile and flexible, adopting a ‘new normal’ as we move into recovery. The College is committed to continuing its flexible approach and is passionate about being part of the solution that helps employers to bounce back, grow and exploit new opportunities.
It is important to remember that apprenticeships can be used to train current members of staff. With the government funding 95% of the training costs for SMEs and large employers building their Apprenticeship levy, it can be the most cost-effective training option.
Employers who have identified new opportunities or gaps within the organisation, discovered new revenue streams or are in the process of reopening after COVID-19, will benefit from the added capacity that a new apprentice can bring to ensure this trend continues as well as fresh energy and ideas.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has recently announced a “brand new bonus” for employers to hire apprentices over the next six months between August 2020 to January 2021. Any company that hires a new apprentice aged 16 to 24 will receive £2,000, while those that hire new apprentices aged 25 and over will be paid £1,500. These payments will be in addition to the existing £1,000 incentive the government already provides for new 16 to 18 year-old apprentices, and those aged under 25 with an education, health and care plan.
If you are thinking of recruiting an apprentice into your organisation or looking to support an existing member of staff in upskilling, then please contact them and they will help you through the recruitment and enrolment journey with their fully supported recruitment service to support you in finding the right apprentice. This includes:
- Advertising your vacancy
- Finding the right apprentice
- Search from within our talent pool of potential apprentices
- Screening, shortlisting and pre interviews
- Support with interviews
