Young game programmers enjoy workshop at Cornwall College Camborne - Tech Cornwall

A WORKSHOP has been launched for budding game programmers aged between 11 and 16.

dBS Code at Cornwall College Camborne held the workshop that created primitive shapes which were then used to build a number of projects such as castles and spiders. The course was run by award-winning game designer Dave Griffiths who said: “The group members were highly energetic and fun to work with.

“They began by playing Minecraft together as they were used to jumping into each other’s ‘worlds’ via the network and building things together.”

The event, organised by dBS, is the first of a number of sessions aimed at introducing young people to coding.

It aims to show them some of the possibilities of education and employment in this area.

Miriam Venner, centre manager for dBS Music Cornwall, said: “We are excited to have launched dBS code as a new development in our suite of level three courses that bring together creativity and state-of-the-art technology into dynamic and cutting-edge education programmes.

“We are working together with Software Cornwall to raise the profile of coding locally and encourage young people into an area of employment that is crying out for suitably trained recruits.”
